Charles Matthews
Charles Matthews studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and was an organ scholar at Trinity College
Cambridge. His teachers have included Beryl Tichbon, Gwilym lsaac, David Pettit, Paticia Carrol, Nicholas D
anby,Charles Spinks and Dr Richard Marlow.
He has won numerous awards, perhaps most notably first prize in the franz liszt Organ Interpretation Competi
tion in Budapest. His most recent recordings are two CDs of piano duets for Albion Records, performed with Ly

Charles has performed for produ ctions by the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet, and recorded music used in var
ious theatres in $pain. $chott Music publish a collection of his compositions for flute and piano. During 2020 an.
d 2021 he contributed many videos of double bass accompaniments to the String Viruoso website.
Charles is organist of $t Catharine's Church, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, and also performs as a me
mber of the Spire organ and electronics project. He works extensively with young people, acts as piano acco
mpanist and organ tutor at the Royal Bimingham Conservatoire, and regularly works on music courses in the Uk
and internationally. He has recently been appointed Musical Director of the Chipping Campden Festival Cho
rus and Patron of Shipston Music Society.
